Gorilla glass is known for its toughness. Want to know what is even tougher? Its Gorilla glass 2! Yes, after making Gorilla glass a success at last year’s edition of CES, Corning announced that it plans to showcase Gorilla Glass 2 at CES 2012. Gorilla glass is a durable screen for any gadget, no matter small or large. It has got excellent acceptance from all mobile and tablet device manufacturers. But apparently, the glass does not satisfy all the needs. The latest need from these manufacturers is “higher functionality from thinner designs”. So in an attempt to fulfill this need, Corning is releasing the Gorilla Glass 2. “Corning’s latest innovation in Gorilla Glass technology is very well positioned to meet these challenges and enable broader touch technology penetration,” said James R. Steiner, senior vice president and general manager, Corning Specialty Materials. We do not know much about the other details of the product and we can get to know more when they make the official announcement on Monday, Jan. 9. More than 30 major brands use Gorilla glass in over 575 product models. In all there exist 500 million units worldwide that use Gorilla glass. The team from Corning is sure that Gorilla Glass 2 will have an ever greater reach because it is indeed better than Gorilla Glass and is suitable for thinner purposes.

The visitors to the stall are given the opportunity to check out first-hand the damage resistance and flexibility of the Gorilla Glass 2 and decide for themselves about the superiority of Gorilla Glass 2 compared to the rest (even the basic version of Gorilla glass.). It is well known that Gorilla glass garnered lot of attention at CES 2011. Corning is waiting with crossed fingers and hoping that Gorilla Glass 2 will recreate the same magic in the 2012’s edition of CES.
That’s not all that’s in store at the Corning’s stall. They are showcasing the extended usage of the Gorilla Glass to a larger format. They displays include an 82-inch advanced multi-touch LCD display prototype featuring Corning Gorilla Glass, Touch-enabled automobile interior and home appliance center simulators, Gorilla Glass-covered video wall, accompanied by Gorilla Glass fabricated sound speakers. Corning does look all set to excel at the CES 2012.
